There are two services every Sunday throughout the year in Bloomfield Presbyterian Church - a morning service at 11.00 am and an evening service at 7.00 pm.
The morning service begins at 11.00 am and is typically attended by about 400 people of all ages. There is no particular dress code - some people turn up dressed in jeans and a t-shirt, others arrive in their 'Sunday best’. In the same way, there are no strict rules as to what’s included in the morning service, although, as you might expect, there are some common elements that we seek to include every week.
Most services begin with a welcome from the minister (or whoever is leading the service), followed by a time of praise and prayer. The praise is led by the many musicians within the congregation, and makes use of a wide range of traditional and contemporary worship styles. There is also a short time of teaching and praise specifically geared for younger children, after which they leave for their Kidzone programme. Most weeks the teenagers also leave at this stage in the service for their own SMYT programme. The remainder of the service continues with praise, prayer and biblical teaching, normally finishing up at about 12.15 pm).
After the service, there is the option of staying behind for tea, coffee, juice and biscuits, and, of course, the opportunity to catch up with old friends and meet some new ones.
Finally, from 12.30 - 1.00 pm most Sundays, we run the ‘Lifebuilders’ programme, where we explore a wide range of issues relating to our Christian faith in a relaxed and informal setting.
The evening service is broadly similar in format to the morning service, except that most of the younger children are at home in bed! That usually makes for a quieter, more contemplative approach to the service, but not always! The first half hour of the service is usually lead by one of our lead worshippers and a praise band, and is followed by a time of bible teaching. Tea and coffee are served after the service.
