Having self-funded and completed a major renovation and re-build of our
church halls at the junction of Beersbridge Road and Cyprus Avenue in
2020, we commissioned a professional health and safety survey last
year of the Bloomfield Presbyterian Church building itself.
The original main Church building dates to the 1880s and has a Grade
B1 listing in a Conservation Area.
The survey revealed a number of essential repairs to the original
external stonework particularly around a feature-stained glass window
with remediation works costing over £150,000.
We were delighted to be informed at the end of March that we had been
awarded a very generous £55,000 grant towards the cost of the works
by the National Churches Trust thanks to Historic Environment funding
allocated by the Department for Communities.
We are blessed to have a large vibrant congregation at Bloomfield with
significant footfall through the church and buildings on a weekly basis as
we host a wide variety of church-based and community-oriented
organisations and groups for all ages, backgrounds and interests.
Our mission as a church is to know Jesus and share his love, and as
such we love to see our buildings being of service not just to ourselves,
but also to the wider community.
The grant monies will help to ensure that the buildings at Bloomfield
Presbyterian Church are safely maintained and preserved for the use
and enjoyment of our congregation, the local community we love so
much, and future generations in this historic part of East Belfast.
We must also extend particular thanks to the Minister and Department
for recognising the merits of our application for funding.
