How many lions feature in Daniel Chapter 6?
That chapter where we read about Daniel thrown into the den of lions.
Well, there had to be at least 3.
No fewer than 2 in the pit and another one hidden, but none the less active behind the scenes. In his 1st Letter, the Apostle Peter gives us an insight which is vital for us all to recognize:
“Be self controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith”.
– 1 Peter 5:8-9
The evil things of this world do not simply happen. There is a dark and malevolent force at work behind all wicked deeds. We do well to look beyond the superficial and discern what is behind the evil in this world. As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ we are in the middle of a spiritual battle. The evil one wants more than anything else to destroy believers and the integrity of Christian witness.
“But, do not be afraid”, says Jesus. “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
– John 16:33
Even as Daniel, the man of prayer, emerged from the sealed pit unscathed by the lions, so The Lord Jesus emerged triumphant from the sealed tomb having defeated the evil one.
In our own strength we are unable to resist, but resting in Christ and His glorious victory, praise God, we are able to stand firm in faith.
